Chris to support Peter Donegan at Thorner

Wednesday, 2 October 2019

Chris will add Peter Donegan - Lonnie Donegan's son and winner of ITV's The Voice 2019 - to his growing list of support slots this November.

Chris has supported Joe Longthorne, Midge Ure and Billy Pearce in the past and will be playing a mix of covers and originals from his new album Long Hard Road.

Here's the blurb on Peter from Thorner Victory Hall:

We are delighted to bring yet another fantastic musician to the Victory Hall for what will be an amazing night of LIVE music.

Almost inevitably, Peter Donegan has been performing since the age of five, given that the ‘Godfather of British Rock n Roll’, ‘King Of Skiffle’, the late Lonnie Donegan, is his father.
Lonnie inspired every British Invasion band from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin. Even The White Stripes’ Jack White cites
Lonnie as one of his major influences. All this runs through Peter's veins and is clearly evident in his live performances, as well as in the studio. Amongst Peters own admirers are Nora Guthrie (daughter of seminal folk musician, Woody Guthrie) Crystal Gayle and Billy Bragg.

Primarily a singer/songwriter and piano player, Peter picked up the acoustic guitar after his Dad passed away in 2002 and taught himself to play the mandolin, harmonica, banjo and ukulele.
Peter was unintentionally born in London as his Dad Lonnie was still on tour when his mother (Lonnie's then Manager) went into labour early, although the family were actually living in California
where it was intended that he would be born. Peter was raised in Lake Tahoe, California then between Orlando, Florida and Malaga, Spain where the family spent quite some time.
No surprise then, from all this, that Peter loves Country music so much and considers himself a true British-American hybrid.

The Voice UK 2019
After auditioning for The Voice UK 2019, Peter performed “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts and got a turn from Sir Tom Jones whom had a hit with one of Peter’s father’s compositions – “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again”.
After Tom discovered the connection, he asked Peter to duet the song with him. What resulted was an emotional acoustic duet which brought the world to tears. The resulting clip went viral, being viewed millions of times across YouTube and social media.
