CHRIS BERRY – THE MANY SIDES OF…
Chris writes regularly for the Yorkshire Post; has just completed writing The Official Joe Longthorne Autobiography; is in the process of completing his first novel. Chris also presents TV programmes on The Country Channel and presents and produces corporate DVDs. Chris’ performing includes being lead singer with a melodic rock covers band; an acoustic duo; a solo performer and a charity fund raising concert organisation. He also books several acts for venues in his locality.
But this is only where he is now. His past includes a whole lot more….
Here are just a few of his many other exploits over the years:
- Chris was the first ever Sunday Morning Breakfast Show host on VIKING FM and has presented on several BBC local radio stations.
- Chris has written, acted, produced and directed on stage both in Hull & Leeds, picking up the Ann Salingar Drama Prize for his portrayal of ‘King Creon’ in Jean Anouilh’s ‘Antigone’; as well as rave reviews for many other roles which have included lead performances in John Godber’s ‘Happy Families’; and playing a lethal Bill Sikes in ‘Oliver Twist’. He has also written two pantomimes, which are available for purchase: ‘Cinderella (or For Yorkshire Eyes Only); and Snow White 2 (or Snow White & The 7 Elves -Elvises!)
- Chris worked for the Hull Daily Mail for 7 years before moving across to work for the Yorkshire Post in Leeds.
- Chris started his newspaper/media career in advertising & became an Advertising Sales Manager for the Yorkshire Post & Yorkshire Evening Post.
- Chris launched the Yorkshire Evening Post’s property supplement ‘Homes’ in 1988.
- Chris launched several magazine titles between 1991-1997 as Managing Editor/Publisher – including sport, business, genera interest, farming & corporate titles.
- Chris has DJ’d for over 30 years – although today his ‘live’ work takes precedence.
- Chris sold his magazine titles back to the Yorkshire Post in 1998.
- Chris set up as a freelance writer/performer in May 2008.
- Chris’ publications have won awards over many years – most notably a Best Magazine Award in 1995.
