Chris Berry is the instigator, organiser, manager and one of the performers in THE SINGING FARMERS. Starting seven years ago to raise funds for the RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution) THE SINGING FARMERS perform four shows per year across the North of England, during March/April. In just six years they have raised nearly £100,000 for the charity through their concerts and CD sales.

THE SINGING FARMERS  is the title of the concert that includes 5 individual singers. Three are farmers in their own right, Chris has written about farming, rural matters and village life for many years and the other, Phillip, runs 3 farm supply shops. The five singers are: CHRIS BERRY – who sings pop/rock songs from the 50s to 70s; KEN JACKSON – who farms near Doncaster and sings easy listening pop hits; TONY RICHARDS – who farms in the North York Moors and sings country music; PHILLIP HOLDEN – who sings Geordie folk songs and is the show’s funny man; CHARLES MARWOOD – who farms in the Vale of York and sings songs from the shows. LLOYD LOCKWOOD, who lives in the same village as Charles accompanies 3 of the acts on keyboards. THE SINGING FARMERS shows always give value for money with each concert lasting around 3 and a half hours!

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s SINGING FARMERS CONCERTS which are as follows:  SUNDAY 14 MARCH – APPLEBY PUBLIC HALL, APPLEBY (starts 2.30pm); SUNDAY 21 MARCH – KIRKBYMOORSIDE MEMORIAL HALL (starts 2.30pm); FRIDAY 26 MARCH – ALLERTONSHIRE SCHOOL, NORTHALLERTON (7.30pm); SUNDAY 28 MARCH – DARLEY MEMORIAL HALL, NIDDERDALE (2.30pm).
